When To Re-design Your Website
It is important to keep your website looking current, fresh and always making sure it is user friendly. It isn’t a bad idea, every few months, re-visiting your website with a fresh pair of eyes to see if there is anything missing and to make sure all links/contact forms etc still work. Along with checking all of your links, it isn’t a bad idea to re-design your website either, but the question is, when is it best to do this and how often?
Over time, your business expands and develops new services, new products and generally new ideas and ways of running. However, sometimes it is easy to forget to update your website and to add all of these new features. New and fresh content will help to attract and retain visitors, as it increases the sites exposure in search results.
High Bounce Rate
When tracking your websites analytics, it is really important to assess the bounce rate. This is probably the most important number to focus on. Why? Because the bounce rate provides you with the number (usually a percentage) of visitors that only visit one single page of your website and then left. The higher the bounce rate, the worse it is, i.e., it is a poor user experience. The average bounce rate is between 40 – 55%. Sites that are difficult to navigate, poorly designed or look old fashioned tend to have a higher rate, therefore it is imperative to make sure your website is always up to date and with a clean design. Keep an eye on your bounce rate and monitor the progress.
It Doesn’t Match Your Brand
Similar to having fresh content, you need to make sure that your website still matches your brand. As your business develops, so can your brand. For example, your demographics may change, your target audience might be completely different now – as your business evolves, so will your audience. Make sure that your website includes all of your new audiences, even if it is a slight change, still include it!
